Your First Visit
It's great that you're interested in what Temple Baptist Church is all about. Maybe you've even driven by and thought of stopping in -- but those first visits are sometimes a bit uncomfortable. That's what this page is for -- to let you know what to expect before you arrive.
What Do I Wear?
Well, . . . clothes :-). Seriously though, our focus is on gathering to find out what God has for us to learn, not on impressing others. You'll see folks in jeans and a t-shirt, in a suit and tie, and in everything in-between. We just ask that you dress modestly so as not to attract undue attention to yourself, and in so doing, to distract from our focus on the Lord.
Sunday Morning Worship
If you're visiting for the first time, you'll probably be attending the morning worship service at 9:30 am on Sunday. Here is what you can expect:
- You'll be welcomed at the door by one of our friendly greeters, who will give you a bulletin (which lists what is happening during the service, as well as special announcements, etc.).
- You'll likely see a number of people chatting, or making their way into the sanctuary for the 9:30 am service.
- Our worship service usually goes something like this;
- Music & Singing -- We have what many people refer to as "contemporary worship." We generally sing newer praise and worship songs, and occasionally, traditional hymns. The words to the songs are projected on a large screen, making it easy to follow along. We are blessed with a very talented worship team composed of vocalists (accompanied by electric- and acoustic- guitars, drums, piano, bass guitar, violin, and flute)
- Junior Church Dismissal -- children 2nd-grade and under are dismissed to attend Junior Church downstairs in the fellowship hall. A Bible lesson is presented, appropriate to their age group. Of course, if they don't feel comfortable there, they can remain with you. That's fine too.
- Sermon -- The Bible is the basis for all of our teaching -- one of our pastors brings us a message from the Bible -- applicable to our lives today.
- Special music -- we are regularly treated to performances by the choir, or perhaps by a musical solo.
- Offering -- now don't get nervous! You are our guest -- no one expects you to contribute. Before the offering is taken, the Pastor will probably remind everyone to fill out the "white card" found in the back of the pew. Regular attendees and visitors are asked to fill this out. We would appreciate it if you'd fill out as much as possible on the front of the card. Don't worry! We're not going to pester you. We would like to send you a letter of welcome, though; thanking you for visiting with us, and offering any help you may need. If you would like more information, but don't feel comfortable talking to the Pastor today, you can check off one of the boxes on the back of the white card. Don't forget to drop the white card in one of the boxes at the back of the sanctuary on your way out!
- Announcements -- A quick highlight of special items in the bulletin; also updates, or new items not covered in the bulletin.
- Dismissal -- This is a good time to say hello to folks. The Pastor will be at the door. Please make sure you let him know you are visiting with us!
